U.S. pro golfer Erica Blasberg texted her caddie in the hours before she was found dead in her Nevada home, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
Missy Pederson told the newspaper she was supposed to carry Blasberg’s bag on Monday at a qualifying tournament in Mobile, Alabama.
She said she discovered a text message from Blasberg on Sunday morning telling her she was not going to Alabama anymore.
The text had been sent in the middle of the night, which Pederson said was worrying.
She sent Blasberg a reply saying she hoped everything was OK but never received anything back.
Blasberg, 25, was found dead in her Las Vegas home about 3pm Sunday.
The young golfer had been hoping to win her way into the Bell Micro Classic which kicks off in Mobile Thursday.
All but one of the top 11 players in the world will compete for four days on the 6,532-yard, par-72 Crossings Course.
Blasberg’s death has cast a darkness over the tournament.
“She was more than a golfer,” said Michelle Wie, who played on the Curtis Cup team with Blasberg.
“She was a really great person. She was always really sweet. Obviously (I’m) really sad about it.”
Suicide has not been ruled out in the death of Blasberg, police spokesman Keith Paul told Fox News Channel.
Blasberg’s father told FOXNews.com the circumstances surrounding her passing “don’t add up,” and had previously indicated to officers that his daughter may have killed herself. Police said the investigation could take up to six weeks.
The Southern Californian native was in her sixth season on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour.
Blasberg lived alone in her home, which she purchased three years ago. Her father said authorities told him that the 911 emergency service call was made by a local male golfer. The police have not released the caller’s identity.
