Post hoops seer likes UConn in ‘home’ game

INDIANAPOLIS — UConn is back in Madison Square Garden and all is right with the world, or at least the Northeast. In a year of disappointment for the Knicks and St. John’s, the Garden finally will be rocking like it should, dominated by a crowd with reason to believe, as Shabazz Napier continues his Kemba Walker impersonation.

UConn (+1½) over Iowa State: We’re back with the Huskies after last week’s inexplicable decision to go the George Costanza opposite instinct route with Villanova. Though the Cyclones looked as good as ever in their win over North Carolina — without Georges Niang — the second game after replacing a key piece is always tougher. Iowa State has been a poor play away from home this season, going 2-6 on the road to end the regular season, and after a slew of neutral-site affairs, a real road game will make a difference.

Michigan State (-2) over Virginia: The Cavaliers deserved their No. 1 seed, but would have been better off without the honor. Everyone knew if Michigan State was ever fully healthy, it would be one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament. Now, the Spartans look like the favorite.

Michigan (-2½) over Tennessee: The Volunteers have become a trendy pick with their recent hot streak and lengthy inside presence, but the Wolverines are as stable as any offense in the country. The rebounding edge is reduced if Michigan isn’t missing.

Kentucky (+4½) over Louisville: The Wildcats are finally as good as we all thought they could be and their game against the Cardinals will be as good as we all think it can be. Take the points in what could be an all-time classic.
