‘Mad Dog’ Russo stays with Sirius XM, will join MLB Network next season

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo is staying on radio and coming to your television.

Sirius XM announced Wednesday that they will be bringing back the former WFAN host with a three-year deal. Russo’s formerly five-hour “Mad Dog Unleashed” show will be condensed to three hours and run from 3-6 pm weekdays.

Russo, a famous San Francisco Giants fan, will also join MLB Network starting next spring and will host a new show for them.

“I’ve always loved the on-air freedom that comes with being on SiriusXM,” Russo said in a statement.

“I can do the kind of show here that I wouldn’t be able to do anywhere else and I’m fortunate to be able to continue to give my listeners my kind of sports talk radio each and every day on ‘Mad Dog Unleashed.’ I’ll also get to emphasize my passion for baseball with my new role on MLB Network Radio and MLB Network, where I’ll be talking to dyed-in-the-wool baseball fans like me throughout the year. This is a terrific opportunity that allows me to do what I do best, while also reaching new audiences.”

Russo parted ways with Mike Francesa in 2008 and signed a massive five-year deal with the satellite provider to headline their sports coverage. This likely ends any slim chance of a full-time “Mike & The Mad Dog” reunion with Francesa, who recently re-upped with WFAN through 2017.
