This bowl going for $10 million

The price for this ancient work will bowl you over.

Sotheby’s auctioneers hope to fetch $10 million from this centuries-old piece of fine Chinese craftsmanship. The exquisite blue-and-white bowl has been traced to the Chenghua period (1465-87) of the Ming Dynasty.

That particular era of Chinese history was renowned for the production of fine porcelain works, such as this bowl.

The work is known as the “Cunliffe Musk-Mallow Palace Bowl,” named after the late art collector Rolf Cunliffe. He acquired more than a thousand ancient Chinese jades, pots, bowls and carvings.

The bowl is set to go under the hammer (so to speak) on Oct. 8 in Hong Kong.
