Child injured in Vidalia Park shooting

An argument at Vidalia Park erupted into gunfire tonight, injuring a child and a young man in the Bronx, police say.

Witnesses say two males got into a heated argument near the basketball court on East 180th street in Fordham around 6:00 pm.

“I was playing handball when I heard one shot. A pause … then three more. Everybody started running,” said Jimmy Williams, 16.

According to authorities, the child was unintentionally grazed in the arm while the older male, who police believe was the intended target, was shot in the leg.

“The little kid, they took him in the ambulance first. He looked calm,” Williams said. “But the older guy, he was limping. He was bleeding from his left leg. He limped to the corner.”

Both victims were taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made yet and an investigation is ongoing, police say.
