Giants place Brown on short-term IR

The Giants officially put running back Andre Brown on the injured reserve/designated to return list on Wednesday, meaning Brown will not be eligible to play until Week 10, when the Giants play the Raiders on Nov. 10.
Brown must miss the first eight games (Week 9 is the Giants’ bye week). He can begin practicing after the sixth game. NFL teams can use the short-term IR on only one player per season. Brown suffered a small crack in a bone in his left leg in the preseason finale last week in New England. It was the same leg he fractured last season.

To take Brown’s spot on the 53-man roster, the Giants signed defensive end Adewele Ojomo from their practice squad. Ojomo’s practice-squad spot was filled by offensive lineman Sam Baker.

Ojomo was on the Giants’ roster for the entire 2012 season, playing in one game (vs. Cleveland on Oct. 7).

Baker, 6-foot-8 and 340 pounds, spent the entire 2012 season on the Cardinals’ practice squad. He went to East Carolina.
