Arsenio dodges Eddie Murphy pal question

How not to answer a question, Part 1: Arsenio Hall, whose new syndicated talk show premieres this Monday, Sept. 9, is featured in the new issue of People magazine, where he’s asked if he sees his onetime best bud Eddie Murphy “often” these days (they co-starred in “Harlem Nights” and “Coming to America”).

“Eddie is like my brother,” says Hall, 57. “It was cool to run the streets as young men and then as fathers.”

OK — but, let’s try that one more time: do you see Eddie Murphy often?

Hall is also asked if he’ll bring the “woof woof” chant — so popular on his early ’90s talk show — back to his new show, which will air weeknights on Ch. 11 (11 p.m.).

“You know what? I won’t say it, but I will warmly accept it if I hear it,” he says. The issue is out today in New York.

Hall’s first-week guests include Chris TuckerMark Harmon, Lisa Kudrow, Ice Cube, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, comedian George Lopez and Angela Bassett.

More Ch. 11 news: Marysol Castro and Dan Mannarino will anchor the station’s very early newscast (4-6 a.m.) starting Monday. This marks a return to Ch. 11 for Castro, who was the station’s traffic reporter before moving on to “The Early Show” (CBS) and then to “GMA.”
