‘Rising Star’ premiere gets mixed reception

It was a mixed bag for the premiere of ABC’s new singing competition show “Rising Star” Sunday night.

The live series — which has viewers vote via an app to determine which contestants advance in real time — was the most social show on TV Sunday night, generating more than 129,000 tweets.

That ranked it above the final-season premiere of “True Blood” (106,000 tweets) and “America’s Got Talent” (33,000 tweets) in Nielsen’s Twitter TV ratings.

But “Rising Star” averaged only 5.1 million viewers compared to “AGT,” which snared 8 million viewers from 9 to 11 p.m. (NBC moved its talent show, which normally airs Tuesdays, to Sunday to directly compete against the “Rising Star” debut.)

“Rising Star” also fell short of ABC’s last stab at the singing show genre, “Duets,” which premiered to 6.8 million viewers back in May 2012.
