Burress under the gun

Former New York Giant Plaxico Burress heads to court today to plead not guilty to felony weapons possession.

The ex-Super Bowl hero shot himself in the thigh with his unregistered Glock last November at a Midtown nightclub.

The Manhattan state Supreme Court arraignment is Burress’ first return to court since late July, when the wide receiver failed to convince a grand jury that he deserved a pass because he was “truly remorseful” and carried a gun out of safety concerns.

The charges against Burress carry a mandatory minimum of 3½ years in prison. Plea negotiations — in which Burress mulled serving as much as a year in jail — fell apart earlier this year after prosecutors insisted he spend two years behind bars.
