Mom pushing stroller foils attacker

Don’t mess with this mom!

A gutsy stroller pushing mom fought off a mugger Friday during a botched robbery in an Inwood park, cops said.

MaryJane Jarman,33, had just dropped off her 5-year-old daughter at school when she went running with her eight-month-old baby boy in a jogging stroller near West 190 Street and Riverside Drive at 10:00 a.m. — that’s when the thief snuck up on her from behind, cops said.

The robber hissed “Come here, come here,” before the no-nonsense mother whipped out a bicycle pump and whacked the man in the head — leaving a nasty gash and breaking the pump to pieces, according to cops.

“At one point he got behind me in a bear hug and took me down. I had the pump and I just kept hitting him, thinking, ‘get his head, get his head!’,” Jarman said.

“I have a bike pump that I use for my jogging stroller and for protection too. It’s kind of like a police baton. It really hurts to get hit with,” she added.

The bottle wielding attacker came “out of nowhere and climbed over from the other side of the guard rail. He said, ‘come here, come here.’ I started yelling and screaming to call as much attention to myself as possible. I figured someone would come help me,” Jarman said.

The mother and child were not injured during the ordeal, cops said.

“He really wanted to hurt me. My phone was on the stroller in front of me and he didn’t try to take it. He didn’t ask for my wallet or anything,” she said.

The injured crook fled from the park and is still in the wind but cops described him as being 5 foot 9 and in his 30s.

“I’m very thankful to the people who stopped to help me. A cyclist helped me out. He chased him down as far as he could. Three motorists also stopped,” Jarman said.

Her husband Joe Jarman, 32, wasn’t surprised that his wife was able to protect herself. “She’s a fighter! She’ll protect herself. I was worried about her but it doesn’t surprise me that she fought him off,” he said.

The protective mother shrugged off her heroics.

“I feel like any mom would’ve done the same thing. I just had to protect my son,” she added.
