Zalaznick searches for digital empire after NBCU

Cable queen Lauren Zalaznick, who is out at NBCUniversal after 12 years, is looking to reinvent herself as a digital diva.

Zalaznick is said to be in the running for the top job at Hulu, the popular Web video hub backed by NBCUniversal, 21st Century Fox and Disney, sources told The Post. Former Hulu CEO Jason Kilar stepped down in January.

There’s also speculation that Zalaznick is interested in joining the Yahoo! media unit and that she interviewed for a board seat at Twitter, according to AllThingsD.

Zalaznick once shared oversight of NBCU’s cable entertainment fiefdom — including Bravo, Oxygen and Style — with fellow top cable executive Bonnie Hammer, but the two clashed.

In February, Hammer won control of all NBCU cable channels, while Zalaznick was given a nebulous position as executive vice president, focusing on innovation, digital, monetization and emerging technology.

Zalaznick’s departure after 12 years prompted one executive to declare, “Bonnie wins.”

Some suggested that Zalaznick may head back to her former employer, Viacom, where she was in charge of VH1, but there is no obvious role for her there.

Zalaznick is best known for making Bravo the home for pop culture hits like “The Real Housewives” franchise and “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.”

In a memo to staff, NBCU chief Steve Burke said Zalaznick will continue to consult on digital media. Her team will be divided up among recently appointed Executive Vice President Cesar Conde, while the staff of ticketing service Fandango would be moved to Jeff Shell, the new boss of the movie and theme park division.

Zalaznick couldn’t be reached for comment.
