Catskills fugitive tries to kill self when cornered by NYPD

The man wanted for killing his ex-girlfriend in Brooklyn while her two daughters went out for food, tried to kill himself as cops closed in on him Thursday in the Catskills, cops said.

Eric McCormick, 40, was hiding out in Hurleyville, a hamlet in Fallsburg, when NYPD cops from the 73 precinct and local authorities tracked him down to a home there, officials said.

When cops knocked on the door, McCormick fired one shot toward his head but only managed to graze himself, cops said. He was rushed to Catskill Medical Center, officials said.

McCormick was wanted in the slaying of his ex, Sellis Gonzalez, 44, in her Chuancey Street apartment in Brownsville on Sept. 18, police said.

Moments before the murder, he sent the victim’s two daughters, Alyssa, 5, and Khadija, 15, went out for fried chicken — they found their mom when they returned home.

McCormick will be extradited back to Brooklyn when he is released from the hospital, cops said.
