Cuomo, de Blasio reach deal on sickly LICH

Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio announced a deal Thursday that settles a long-running dispute over financially ailing Long Island College hospital in Brooklyn.

Under the agreement, the State University of New York, which owns LICH, will briefly reopen the bidding process to sell the property.

SUNY has been trying to close or unload LICH, which loses $13 million a month and has more than a half-billion dollars in liabilities.

SUNY will cease operating the hospital in May.

Several bidders — including the NYU/Fortis Group and Brooklyn Hospital Center — have proposed opening medical clinics and emergency care, along with new housing, at the Cobble Hill site.

But the new medical center will likely be a slimmed-down version of the current hospital, which has inpatient beds.

De Blasio was arrested last July during a protest to save LICH.
