Simon Monjack now wants to know what happened to his wife

Brittany Murphy’s husband, who at first told doctors he didn’t want an autopsy on his wife, now wants to know how she died.

“This is what’s killing all of us. How did it happen? Her mum, myself and her family – we want to know why we lost our baby,” Simon Monjack told People.

“My initial reaction to the autopsy was – they’re going to cut her open – I couldn’t bear it,” Monjack said as he cried. “That would break her mother, but we realized we needed to know. I look forward to getting the results.”

Murphy was founded collapsed in the shower Sunday by her mother and was later pronounced dead. The corner initially said she died of cardiac arrest from natural causes.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday but the results won’t be known for five to six weeks pending toxicology and neurological reports.

Independent doctors have said it’s unlikely she died of natural causes and pointed to her reported drug use as a more possible reason. TMZ has reported that Murphy’s bedside table was littered with prescription pill bottles.

People asked Monjack whether drugs could have played a role in Murphy’s death. “I can get rid of that one right now,” he said of the allegation.

Murphy was ill Saturday laryngitis, he said. She treated it with herbal tea, ginger and lemon.

“She was on herbal remedies that wouldn’t speed up her heart,” Monjack told People. “There was nothing here that could endanger her; there was prescription medication in the house for her female time and some cough syrup. That was it.”

Monjack also disputed reports that Murphy was anorexic.

“It’s crazy – she was slim, but that was her natural physique,” he said.

But he added that “she tried to gain weight but had one of those metabolisms – a high metabolism – but enjoyed food as much as anyone. I wish I could show all the receipts from the take out restaurants.”
