Looking for Palladin

DON’T you just hate guys in suits who storm down a busy street screaming into a cellphone earpiece, looking for all intents and purposes as if they’re talking to themselves?

People like Josh Ross, the self-absorbed Hollywood agent played by David Moscow in “Looking for Palladin.”

From the second he’s off the plane that took him to Guatemala, workaholic Ross barks orders at people back home and shows complete disdain for the laid-back locals.

Ross is on a mission to find Jake Palladin (Ben Gazzara), a two-time Oscar winner who now works in the kitchen of a restaurant in Antigua, a quaint colonial town.

Ross’ mission is to offer Palladin $1 million to make a cameo appearance in the remake of one of his old movies.

Oh, yes. In a hard-to-take coincidence, Ross is also Palladin’s stepson (mom is dead), although the two have never met.

“Looking for Palladin” has a split personality. It starts as a comedy but morphs into an icky family melodrama. It should have stuck with the yuks.
