THE “Gossip Girl” character known as “Lonely Boy” is not so lonely anymore.
The normally dull Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) got it on in a threesome on this week’s episode with his movie-star squeeze Olivia Burke (guest star Hilary Duff) and childhood friend Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr).
The plotline predictably incited outrage among some parents.
But it wasn’t nearly as steamy as it could have been.
Interestingly enough, the heavily-hyped tryst did not involve the characters whose moral proclivities tend to run loose.
Instead, “Gossip” put its three most boring characters into a particularly salacious situation.
The set-up involved Dan and Vanessa attempting to convince Olivia to choose college over Hollywood fame by taking her through a list of “traditional” must-do college experiences published in the campus rag.
Apparently “have a threesome” falls somewhere between “dance in a fountain” and “do a keg stand.”
Despite the involvement of former ‘tween heroine Duff, it was Szohr who played the “guest star” in the threesome with Dan and his girlfriend.
For all the build-up, the actual ménage started off with some admittedly steamy kisses, but then fast-forwarded to a shot of the three sleeping peacefully in a king-size bed.
The parts in between (excuse the pun) have been relegated to flashbacks in future episodes.
So, while the act itself was left to fervent imaginations, at least for now, a practical question remains: Who scores a bed that big in college?
