Mammoth

Yet another cinematic sermonette inspired by “Crash” and “Babel,” Lukas Moodysson’s “Mammoth” stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams as an upscale Manhattan couple who get a lesson in global politics.

He’s a video-game designer who falls for a local prostitute (Run Srinikornchot) while on a business trip to Thailand. She’s a busy emergency-room doctor who exploits her Filipino nanny (Marife Necesito) to take care of their 7-year-old daughter (Sophie Nyweide).

This overlong drama is the first (mostly) English-language film from the talented Swedish filmmaker Moodysson (“Lilya 4-Ever”). Any semblance of subtlety was unfortunately lost in translation.

Running time: 125 minutes. In English, Tagalog and Thai with English subtitles. Not rated (sex, profanity, violence). At the IFC Center, Sixth Avenue and Third Street.
