Strahan feeling Freeney’s pain

Michael Strahan struggled with his share of injuries during his stellar career as one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers with the Giants, so he knows how difficult it will be for Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney to come back full bore tomorrow from his ankle injury.

“Any position on the field would be impacted by an ankle like that. Because football involves a lot of torque, a lot of cutting, a lot of running,” Strahan, who helped lead the Giants to their Super Bowl XLII title, said at an appearance in New York this week. “Just can’t do that on a bum ankle and be that effective. So if his ankle is truly as bad as they say with torn ligaments and things like that, then it could be a big issue for the Colts.”

Nevertheless, Strahan, who works as a Fox analyst, still thinks the Colts will be okay in Super Bowl XLIV, even though Freeney’s right ankle kept him out of practice all week.

“I know they have [fellow end Robert] Mathis and they have other guys who can get after the quarterback,” Strahan said. “So it’s not like if Dwight Freeney doesn’t play that the Colts have no chance defensively. They still have a lot of talent.”
