Hardwick’s back for tweet, tweet seconds on Comedy Central

Comedy Central has renewed Chris Hardwick’s late-night show, “@midnight,” for a second season season (40 weeks) set to premiere next year.

The show, airing Monday through Thursday at midnight (natch), has averaged nearly 770,000 viewers since it premiered last January.

More importantly for Comedy Central, the Emmy-nominated show has stamped a huge social media footprint into the late-night landscape, garnering over 5 million mentions and generating over 10 billion impressions in cyberspace.

It’s averaged over 200,000 weekly online mentions, led by the show’s #HashtagWars segment, in which celebs race against the clock to create funny Twitter hashtags. The segment has repeatedly topped Nielsen’s Trending Twitter Topics.

“@midnight” has the youngest median audience among its late-night competitors (32 years old), and garnered an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Interactive Program.

In addition to “@midnight,” Hardwick, 42, hosts “The Walking Dead” after-show, “Talking Dead,” and also hosted the “Breaking Bad” after-show (“Talking Bad”).

He also hosted “The Nerdist,” a version of his popular podcast, on BBC America and will host the network’s “Doctor Who” pre-show and after-show on Aug. 23 when the new season premieres.
