LI prodigy: Prof crook stole work

Former child genius Alia Sabur of Long Island, who started college right after the fourth grade, is suing her graduate school for fraud and defamation, charging that her professor stole her research and sabotaged her Ph.D.

She claims Drexel University prof Yury Gogotsi co-opted her research in nanotechnology and applied for grants based on her work.

She filed suit in 2008, and the civil trial opens today in Philadelphia.

The suit says Gogotsi “enriched” himself by receiving millions from the foundations to do work Alia had already completed.

In June, Sabur, 21, put forth her proposal to cap the Gulf of Mexico oil leak in The Post, and met with BP in Louisiana.

Drexel did not return calls seeking comment.

Gogotsi, reached at his office, refused to comment.
