AT&T was sued by Al-Jazeera for refusing to carry the Qatar- based broadcaster’s new US cable-news channel as part of its pay-television service.

Kodak back

A US judge has OK’d Kodak’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy protection, paving the way for the photography pioneer to emerge as a new company focused on commercial and packaging printing.

State rates

The unemployment rate climbed in 28 U.S. states in July, indicating progress in the labor market remains uneven. New York state’s rate remained flat from June at 7.5 percent, however while New Jersey’s rate dropped from 8.7 percent to 8.6 percent.

Ally sets sale

Ally Financial has agreed to sell $1 billion of stock in a private placement and will repay the government nearly $6 billion as it works to boost its capital levels and exit government ownership.

SEC charge

The Securities and Exchange Commission charged Brian Williamson, a former private equity fund manager at Oppenheimer & Co. with misleading investors about the valuation and performance of some funds.
