Fordham’s Moorhead rewarded with extension

Joe Moorhead was rewarded on Tuesday for leading Fordham to one of the most successful seasons in school history.

The football coach has signed a five-year contract extension that will take him through the 2021 season, the school announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Moorhead was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award as the NCAA FCS Coach of the Year for the past two seasons. This year, he led the Rams to a 12-2 mark – two years removed from a one-win campaign the year before he took over – and the second round of the NCAA FCS Championship for just the second time in school history.

Fordham won its first 10 games of the year for the first time in program history and was ranked as high as fifth in both national polls, its highest ranking ever.

The Rams set a school record for most wins in a season in the modern era (since 1920) and accomplished several other firsts: first win over an FBS team (Temple); first win over a top-10 ranked FCS team on Jack Coffey Field (Villanova); first home NCAA FCS playoff win at Jack Coffey Field (Sacred Heart).

Moorhead, a former Fordham quarterback who graduated in 1996, was named the 2013 Patriot League Coach of the Year.
