McCain caught playing video poker during Senate hearing

While the Senate talked about taking a big gamble in Syria, Sen. John McCain took time to place his bets on a video poker game. The hawkish Republican — who has advocated striking Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad — was caught by a photographer using an online poker app on his iPhone during a Senate Foreign Relations hearing about the Syrian civil war yesterday.

He played as the Obama administration made the case for going all-in against the dictator. After a picture of McCain’s play time went viral, the senator was criticized for playing poker while war was being discussed.

He later dismissed critics in a tweet that said: “Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing — worst of all I lost!”
