Mosley gets Suh in debut

DETROIT — In a difficult season for the Giants offensive line, the right side was able to develop some semblance of continuity, as guard David Diehl and tackle Justin Pugh at tackle started the past 10 games. That tandem will be broken up on Sunday, as Diehl (knee) is listed as doubtful and not expected to play, forcing Brandon Mosley into his first NFL start.

Mosley is a second-year player with virtually no experience. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve and hasn’t played much in the 11 games he has been activated. He did replace struggling James Brewer at left guard in the second half of last week’s 23-0 loss to the Seahawks.

“Anybody that’s a backup is always ready and eager to get in there and play and show the coaches and organization what they’ve got,” said Mosley, a 2012 fourth-round draft pick from Auburn.

Mosley’s assignment in his first start? Lions defensive tackle Ndomukong Suh, a two-time Pro Bowler and many-time instigator.

“You can see his athleticism,” Mosley said. “He’s just a great D-tackle.’’

Brewer (ankle) and wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan (knee) are listed as questionable.

With Victor Cruz (knee surgery) unavailable, wide receiver Julian Talley — like Cruz a product of UMass — could get in his first NFL game. Talley was signed this past week off the practice squad. … Running back Peyton Hillis (concussion) is out, leaving only rookie Michael Cox and perhaps fullback John Conner as the only ball-carriers behind starter Andre Brown. Cox has just 20 rushing attempts this season, none in the past six games.

“He works very hard,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “He’s a serious-minded kid, so he’ll be ready to go. He’s got good energy and good endurance.”
