WNBA Finals booted from arena by ‘Disney On Ice’

Mickey Mouse on skates takes preference over the WNBA, at least at Phillips Arena.

The Atlanta Dream advanced all the way to the WNBA Finals only to be told it can’t host a home game, because Phillips has already booked “Disney On Ice: Let’s Celebrate!” for those dates. The Minnesota Lynx host Games 1 and 2 and Game 3 will take place at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., more than a half-hour away from Atlanta, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.

So the Dream, which swept Indiana in the Eastern Conference finals, is being rewarded for reaching the pinnacle of its league by being booted from its home court. Atlanta has the WNBA’s top scorer in Angel McCoughtry, who averaged 21.5 points per game this year.

It isn’t like Phillips couldn’t have foreseen the Dream making it this far. This will be Atlanta’s third WNBA finals in four seasons.

“We know what it feels like to not win it, and we want to get over that hump this year and bring a championship to Atlanta,” said McCoughtry, according to the AP.

They’re going to have to settle for Duluth.
