Hot-dog vendors hope to stay in Washington Square Park

It could be wurst!

The Parks Department is reconsidering its decision to boot hot-dog vendors from Washington Square Park — days after The Post reported that a private, celebrity-studded conservancy asked for the carts to be booted.

“We will be assessing the public’s desires for what foods they would like to see . . . as we determine what mobile foods — including hot dogs — may be offered, and where in the park they will be located,” a Parks spokesman said.

The Washington Square Park Conservancy came under fire last week for asking the Parks Department to move “unsightly” tube-steak vendors away from the arch in March.

Months later, Parks honchos informed vendor Moon Mohammad his contract, which ends in December, wouldn’t be renewed.

Run by actor John Leguizamo’s wife, Justine, and socialite Veronica Bulgari, the private group claims it asked the sausage slingers be moved on behalf of neighbors.

Wiener lovers have since been taking their beef to John Leguizamo, who defended himself on Twitter.

“I wanna keep the hot-dog guy,” Leguizamo wrote on Dec. 1. A day later, he added, “We had nothing to do with it. The park did it on their own and we became the scapegoat.”

But frankfurter fans were skeptical.

“He’s a big star and his wife is one of the four people who apparently founded [the conservancy],” said Sean Basinski, director of the Street Vendor Project.

A pro-hot-dog demonstration is set for Sunday.
