It appears Michael Vick has selected his new jersey number with the Jets – No. 8.
When Vick signed a one-year deal with the Jets last month, fans wondered who would wear No. 7 since incumbent quarterback Geno Smith wore it as a rookie and Vick had worn it throughout his career with the Falcons and Eagles and even back to his days at Virginia Tech. Vick avoided any controversy by immediately saying Smith could keep the number.
On Sunday night, Vick announced on Twitter he was down to choosing between Nos. 3 and 8 and asked for the fans’ help in deciding.
A short time later, he announced on Instagram that he had gone with No. 8 and had a computer-generated picture of himself in the new jersey. He later took the post down.
