POW’s girlfriend found new love

It sounds like the script from the TV show “Homeland.” Bowe Bergdahl is finally free five years after being captured by the Taliban. Unfortunately for him, his girlfriend, Monica Lee, has found love with another man.

Lee’s mom, Allison, called her daughter with the news while she was out hiking with friends. The 25-year-old asked: “What do I do now?”

Monica was just 19 when Bergdahl was captured by the Taliban. Her last Skype contact with him was in June 2009 right before he wandered off the base and was taken hostage.

However, Bergdahl was still able to get messages to his family, which were sent by his captors.

In his final message, Allison Lee says, he told her daughter not to wait for him.

“He said he wanted her to go with her life, and not feel like she had to wait. No one knew how long he would be held for,” Allison said. “Emotionally, it was very trying for her. She was 19 going on 20 at the time. It was a lot more than most people have to deal with.

“She’s learned a lot to be quiet about how she feels but she has always been very supportive of Bowe, and very anxious about him,” Allison told the Daily Mail.

Allison said her daughter was excited to hear the news of Bergdahl’s release but that it has also caused some confusion for her.

“She asked me, ‘What should I do now?’ She is a little confused what is going on. She hadn’t been briefed lately about his situation,” she said.

Facebook photos show that Monica has been in a relationship with Justin Forsdick since 2012.

Bergdahl was released in a deal that freed five high-ranking members of the Taliban who were being held in Guantánamo Bay.

President Barack Obama has received some criticism for arranging the deal, which bypassed congressional approval. He was unapologetic, however, as he stood at the White Hose with Bergdahl’s parents, Jani and Bob Bergdahl.

“Today, families across America rejoice in the joy you feel. We cannot wait for that moment you are reunited and have your son Bowe back in your arms,” he said.
