Rockaway Park product Xander McDonald-Smith won the prestigious New York City Amateur golf tournament at the LaTourette course on Staten Island on Sunday.
A Scholars Academy graduate, McDonald-Smith attends Penn State on a golf scholarship.
McDonald-Smith posted a three-round score of 209 to win the tournament, notching scores of 68, 69 and 72. A rising senior, McDonald-Smith, 21, won the PSAL’s individual golf tournament three times while in high school, was the Wingate winner for boys golf, given to the top senior in his or her respective sport, and has been a member of the First Tee program since he was 13 years old.
