BELL’S KIN REJECT CITY VIGIL CALL

Some politicians plan to hold a candlelight vigil this month to mark the one-year anniversary of the fatal NYPD shooting of Sean Bell – but his family says it wants no part of what it considers a “publicity stunt.”

Attorney Neville Mitchell said the family plans its own service, adding that “they can’t prevent what other people are doing” and dismissing the public gathering as a “publicity stunt.”

Councilman John Liu (D-Queens), noting that “the memories are still there,” announced the overnight vigil yesterday at City Hall and called on all New Yorkers to support it.

It’s to be from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, on Liverpool Street between 94th and 95th avenues in Jamaica, Queens. The Rev. Al Sharpton is to preside over a service afterward.

Bell, 23, died in a hail of 50 bullets early on his wedding day as he left his bachelor party at a strip club. He was unarmed. Three detectives were indicted in March in connection with his death.
