SEWERS FLOOD GROUND ZERO NEIGHBORS

A fast-moving flood filled the parking garage of a luxury apartment building downtown with more than 15 feet of water yesterday morning, causing cars to float to the top of hundreds of gallons of sewer water, officials said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the flood at 90 West St., but Fire Department officials said heavy rain overflowed sewers at Ground Zero that are currently open for ongoing construction.

“I don’t know what to do. I’m livid,” said Roe Williams, a 27-year-old student whose brand-new Mercedes Benz G55 was in the garage.

“I haven’t even had it for two days. Someone’s going to pay for my car,” she said.

Residents were not allowed to return home last night and it may be up to three days before utilities are restored.

The landlord has offered to pay for tenants’ hotel rooms until they are allowed home.
