I need to clear up a misconception.

I am the author of what they call on the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” The Book, “Cop Without a Badge.”

At one point during the now famous “table-flipping” scene, housewife Danielle Staub holds up The Book and exclaims: “Just because my ex-husband decided to write a book about me!”

I immediately began getting inundated with emails asking if I was Danielle’s ex-husband. First of all, her ex-hus band Kevin Maher didn’t “write” the book — I wrote The Book about her ex-husband 13 years ago.

So I was never married to Danielle. Kevin Maher was.

And another thing. Nowhere in The Book does it state that Beverly/Danielle was a prostitute.

The other housewives on the show kept saying that. And now court papers posted on the Internet allege she worked as an escort.

But it’s not in The Book.

What is in The Book regarding the relationship between Kevin Maher and Beverly Merrill aka Danielle Staub is even more riveting than anything revealed on the show.

It’s the saga of a dysfunctional, codependent love story for the ages, fueled by drugs, lust and insane jealousy. Like the time Kevin jams a Smith & Wesson in the crotch of one Beverly’s boyfriends and threatens to . . . well, you have to read The Book.

No question, Beverly/Danielle now wants to forget Kevin, the man who brandished a Berretta at a strip joint because he thought she was cheating on him and dropped a bullet onto Beverly’s forehead with the admonition: “The next time you see one of these coming at you, it’ll be coming at you a lot faster.”

Tom Clancy once said the difference between reality and fiction is “fiction has to make sense.” I agree.

I could never have made up a story as bizarre as the tale of The Book and The Show. And creating fictional characters like the housewives of New Jersey? Fugetaboutit!
