With the New Year upon us, The Post is providing resolutions for all 30 teams with our weekly rankings:
1. Ducks (1): More home games. The Ducks still haven’t dropped a game in regulation at home, where they are a franchise-best 15-0-2 after Tuesday’s win against the Sharks.
2. Blackhawks (2): At 28-7-7 and 63 points — the most in the league — there’s not much room for improvement, but the penalty kill ranks 28th, allowing 30 goals.
3. Blues (8): Continue to have offensive production from their blueliners. St. Louis has three players ranked in the top 10 in scoring by defensemen.
4. Penguins (4): Get healthy. The Penguins have a league-high eight players on IR.
5. Sharks (7): Stay disciplined. San Jose has the second fewest penalty minutes in the NHL, and we all know how important it is to stay out of the box.
6. Bruins (6): Continue to dominate divisional play. Boston is 11-6-0 against Atlantic Division opponents.
7. Canucks (5): Pretend it’s still December. They racked up 10 wins in 13 games during the past month.
8. Kings (3): It’s a good problem to have, but when Jonathan Quick returns from a
groin injury, either rookie sensation Martin Jones or Ben Scrivens (1.84 goals against average, .936 save percentage) will have to be sent to the AHL.
9. Lightning (9): For Steven Stamkos to return to the lineup and help the offense. He had 14 goals in 17 games before a leg injury landed him on IR.
10. Avalanche (11): A winning streak, because they didn’t have one at all in December.
11. Canadiens (10): Don’t rely so much on goaltending. Montreal ranks third in goals against and 22nd in goals scored.
12. Stars (13): Make the playoffs. This may be every team’s goal, but Dallas hasn’t made the postseason since 2008 and is hanging tough in a difficult Western Conference. The Stars are only two points out of the final playoff spot.
13. Coyotes (12): Break the tie. The Coyotes have a goal differential of zero, having scored and given up 120 goals, and need to get that number in the positives in order to make the playoffs.
14. Flyers (16): Halfway through a six-game road trip, the Flyers are a perfect 3-0. Winning the next two – or even three – would be a good start to the new year.
15. Capitals (14): To draw as many penalties as possible. They’ve scored 35 goals with the man advantage – the most in the league – and convert on 25 percent of power plays.
16. Maple Leafs (21): To allow fewer shots per game. The Leafs allow a league-high 36 per game, including having allowed 50 shots three times this season. Not surprisingly, they’ve been outshot in 33 of 42 games.
17. Rangers (17): Give Henrik Lundqvist more starts. He’s the franchise goalie and sitting four straight doesn’t help him or the Rangers.
18. Devils (18): To win a shootout. The Devils are 0-6 this season – scoring on just one of 20 chances – and have lost 10 straight in the skills competition dating back to last season.
19. Wild (15): Give defenseman Ryan Suter a rest. He leads the league by a wide margin with 29:42 of ice time per game.
20. Jets (25): To move back to the Eastern Conference. They own a 11-4-1 record against their old foes in the East.
21. Red Wings (20): To protect home ice. Joe Louis Arena used to be one of the toughest places to play, but not anymore. Detroit is 6-10-6 at home, not including the Winter Classic loss on Wednesday in Ann Arbor.
22. Senators (23): For Craig Anderson to play the way he did last season, before an ankle injury. His 2013-14 numbers haven’t approached last season’s.
23. Predators (19): More offense, please! Nashville has scored two or fewer goals in 22 of 40 games.
24. Blue Jackets (24): Get better defensively. The Blue Jackets are scoring goals, but you won’t win many when you allow three or more goals in seven of eight games.
25. Hurricanes (22): Improve on special teams. The Hurricanes rank 26th in power play percentage and 22nd in penalty kill percentage.
26. Islanders (27): Move to Brooklyn sooner. They’ve lost eight straight at Nassau Coliseum and play their first three games of 2014 on home ice.
27. Panthers (26): With one only player with double-digit goals (Brad Boyes, 10), the Panthers need more scoring from the other members of the rosters.
28. Flames (28): Make a trade for a goalie. Karri Ramo isn’t the answer.
29. Oilers (29): To obtain the No. 1 overall pick for the fourth time in five years. It’s really all they can hope for after another lost season.
30. Sabres (30): Sign Wayne Gretzky. Buffalo has scored one or no goals in 19 of 40 games and been shut out six times.
