Seth Meyers to host Primetime Emmys this summer

NBC has chosen Seth Meyers to host the Primetime Emmy Awards this August. This will be the first time the “Late Night” comic will host the awards show even though Meyers has hosted the ESPY Awards in 2010 and 2011. The telecast will take place on Monday August 25th instead of the usual mid-September slot because of NBC’s commitment to “Sunday Night Football.”

NBC’s President of Alternative and Late Night Programming, Paul Telegdy, said in a statement, “Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at ‘SNL,’ as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on ‘SNL’ and ‘Late Night,’ makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys…we’ll be in great hands.”

Back in 2010, then “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon hosted the Primetime Emmys and opened the show with a memorable taped opening featuring Tina Fey, Betty White, Jon Hamm and cast members from “Glee” singing Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”

It will be a busy couple of days for awards shows in Los Angeles. The telecast will originate from the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles the day after MTV’s Video Music Awards are set to broadcast from The Forum in nearby Inglewood, California.
