New York state recovered $263 million last year from prosecuting Medicaid fraud — more than doubling the damages collected in 2007, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo reported yesterday.
The 143 convictions and other settlements in 2008 covered scams involving drug companies, hospitals, home-health agencies and nursing homes.
Cuomo applauded the work of his Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
Among the highlights:
* $41 million collected from Bristol-Myers Squibb to settle charges of illegal marketing and fraudulent pricing.
* $27.7 million from home-health agencies and employees charged with filing phony Medicaid claims.
