KIEFER RUNS OUT OF BAUER

Even Jack Bauer isn’t above the law.

Hard-partying actor Kiefer Sutherland took the walk of shame into a TriBeCa police station yesterday to face assault charges for a nightclub dust-up in which he head-butted a fashion designer.

Wearing a three-quarters-length black raincoat, blue jeans and cowboy boots, Sutherland — who stars as Bauer on the hit show “24” — walked into the First Precinct at 4 p.m. flanked by two lawyers and a bodyguard.

He walked out about two hours later after being fingerprinted, having his mug shot taken and being handed a desk-appearance ticket for a misde meanor count of third-degree as sault.

Sutherland, 42, was polite but did not speak with officers inside the station, sources said. He also kept si lent amid the armada of re porters and photogra phers camped outside.

Earlier, when he left his girl friend’s West Vil lage apart ment to turn him self in, he uttered his first words to the press since the alleged assault.

“I’m doing well, thanks,” he said. “I really can’t say anything.”

Sutherland — who has a penchant for public bouts of alcohol-fueled tomfoolery — is accused of slamming his forehead into the face of designer Jack McCullough early Tuesday, leaving him with a gash across the bridge of his nose.

A rep for McCullough said his client also “suffered a broken nose in three places.”

The incident occurred after McCullough bumped into actress Brooke Shields at an after-party for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute gala at Submercer, causing her to almost lose her balance.

Sutherland allegedly took offense and confronted McCullough, telling him, “Step back, buddy!”

When McCullough asked him what the problem was, Sutherland channeled his inner Jack Bauer and allegedly head-butted the fashionista in the face.

A lawyer for Shields, Gerald Lefcourt, said his client is close to both McCullough and Sutherland and was surprised at what happened.

“While at the party, she was bumped by Jack McCullough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned. Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her presence. Both Jack and Kiefer are friends of hers and she regrets this unfortunate situation,” Lefcourt told The Post.

Meanwhile, the actor remains free until his next court date, June 21.

Sutherland is currently on probation in California for a 2007 drunken-driving conviction that landed him in jail for 48 days. It was unclear how or if his arrest in New York would affect that.

“We’ll be in touch with the NYPD and the prosecutors in New York,” said Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
