Close shave for Bruney

A few years ago, Brian Bruney gave Johnny Damon a haircut in Chicago during a rain delay that proved Bruney’s future was in fastballs instead of shears. Bruney took on his own hair Wednesday and shaved the scalp bald. “Got tired of messing with it,” Bruney said of his locks. Bruney, who shaved his head three years ago, is in dire need of some sun on the dome.

“You always want to retire on your own terms,” Bruney said. “I want to lose my hair on my own terms.” . . . Damon received the Talkhouse Award for Community Service Thursday night at the Wounded Warrior Project’s Courage Awards and Benefit Dinner at Cipriani’s in Manhattan. Damon accepted the award via video since the Yankees were in Toronto. The Yankees also were honored at the event for their support to the WWP in Tampa and New York.

King Tiger eyes castle

The King of Golf is looking to stay in a castle for next month’s U.S. Open in Bethpage.

The Rumble has learned that Tiger Woods’ people have inquired about Tiger and his entourage staying at Long Island’s exclusive Gold Coast landmark — the Oheka Castle in Huntington. A castle spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny, saying only a “major golf player” had inquired about staying at the 23-acre estate once owned by financier/philanthropist Otto Kahn. Built in 1919, Oheka Castle is a haven for celebrities, with LL Cool J having stayed recently. The suites run as high as $1,325 per night during U.S. Open week June 15-21.

With the Open being held at the Bethpage Black public course in the heart of Long Island suburbia, precious few luxury hotels are nearby and several golfers rent homes for the week blocks from the course. If Tiger goes castle, he will have his own golf course in his backyard. Oheka and its golf course finally are being reunited. Kahn built a golf course at the estate because in those days he was not permitted in most golf country clubs because he was Jewish. After he died, the golf course was sold to the Cold Spring Country Club. Developer Gary Melius, who bought the castle in 1984, now lives in the estate.

Birdies, bogeys & beauty

The ladies in town for this week’s Sybase Classic at the Upper Montclair Country Club got a chance to go from golf to glam with cosmetic maven and “Today” show beauty editor Bobbi Brown. The players got prettied up at Brown’s nearby studio in Upper Montclair, with Brown — apparently a huge LPGA fan — bringing in eight of her best makeup artists for one-on-one consultations. The players who received makeovers and tips on sun safety were Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Nicole Castrale, Laura Diaz, Vicky Hurst, ShanShan Feng, Juli Inkster and Pat Hurst. . . . The Shaun O’Hara Foundation Inaugural Celebrity Golf Outing, which benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is Wednesday at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City. The Giants center will be joined by Eli Manning, the other starters on the offensive line, and punter Jeff Feagles. For more information, contact Jim Ruh at (908) 612-8100.

David Wrightville, N.J.

David Wright is so popular he’s been elected mayor of a New Jersey town. No, not that David Wright. The town of Winfield, N.J. — located in Union County — actually has a family of David Wrights, not related to the Mets’ third baseman. David Wright Sr. is the mayor and has served his town for four decades. His son, David Wright Jr., is a sergeant in the New Jersey State Police and has a 9-year-old son, David Wright III.

The three Winfield Wrights attended a Mets game last week and were supposed to meet the “other” David Wright before the game but arrived too late. . . . On Thursday, as part of Fleet Week New York, six members of the Red Bulls will square off on the flight deck of the former USS Intrepid against six members of a Navy team from the USS Roosevelt. More than 1,300 tickets have been purchased and donated by 15 different companies for servicemen and women to attend the Red Bulls’ home game against Chicago on May 24.
