SHOWDOWN AT SARATOGA

Post handicappers John DaSilva, Ed Fountaine and two-time defending champion Vic Cangialosi challenge former champion steeplechase jockey, OTB backstretch insider and co-publisher of the Saratoga Special, Sean Clancy, as they battle for bragging rights during the six-week summer showcase meeting at Saratoga. Each handicapper was given an imaginary $1,800 bankroll and is held to a limit of $50 in wagers daily.

JOHN DaSILVA

TODAY’S PLAYS: In race 7, Ryvit is by sire that does well on turf. Key Ryvit in a $5 exacta box with Novel Notion, Zapster, Petecarol, the Mott entry and Mint Maker. Total bet: $50.

YESTERDAY’S RESULTS: Too Amenable got the job done with Marscaponi second for an exacta of $9.40 that we had five times. Loss of $3 on the day.

BANKROLL: $1,815

VIC CANGIALOSI

TODAY’S PLAYS: In the third race, bet $10 to win on Shoptate. Then a pair of $20 doubles singling Driven By Success in the eighth with both City Sneakers and Separatist in the ninth. Total bet: $50.

YESTERDAY’S RESULTS: Dean’s Kitten was victorious. But Rosie’s Promises could not close out our double after leading until 15 yards before finish line. No excuses for Lost Without You. Perfect rail trip and still came up short. Lost $50.

BANKROLL: $1,585.50

ED FOUNTAINE

TODAY’S PLAYS: In the sixth, $20 win, $10 place on Ballast, and $10 daily double with Grand Piano Man in the seventh. Also, $10 win on Grand Piano Man. Total bet: $50.

YESTERDAY’S RESULTS: In the third race, Distinctively ($20 win, $10 place) ran fourth in her debut at 7-1, beaten a length for all the money. In the fifth, Submerge ($8 win) raced with aluminum pads to finish seventh at 5-2. In our $2 exacta box, Eager Emma won at 7-1 and Rosie’s Promises (2-1) was beaten a nose for second. Lost $50.

BANKROLL: $1,665.20

SEAN CLANCY

TODAY’S PLAYS: In the first, bet $30 to win on Mixed Up and a $10 exacta box of Mixed Up and Planets Aligned. Total bet: $50.

YESTERDAY’S RESULTS: Ignored the outside post for Vamos A Ver when handicapping and paid the price as he bounced around like a bad stock. Lost $40. In the sixth, Too Amenable and Marscaponi did their share, albeit, at chalky prices, returned $23.50 for $5 exacta play. Lost $26.50.

BANKROLL: $1,561.50
