LONDON — The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, formerly known as Prince William and Kate Middleton, will visit California in July at the end of their official trip to Canada, a spokesperson for the royal couple said Thursday.
“The couple will visit the state of California from July 8 to July 10, 2011,” the spokesperson said, adding that a detailed itinerary would be published at a later date.
The trip will be the duchess’ first visit to America, while the duke previously visited the country but not in an official capacity.
The confirmation came after Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, reported that the new royal couple would be heading to Hollywood in the summer.
Morton also said that Britain’s other de facto royals, soccer star David Beckham and his fashion designer wife Victoria, were likely to host the couple at their Bel Air mansion.
The Beckhams, who know the duke through their work on the unsuccessful bid to bring the soccer World Cup to England, were among the high-profile guests at the duke and duchess’ wedding in London last week.
