Mets’ Young scratched; could go back on DL

Chris Young’s arm woes continued last night as the right-hander was scratched shortly before the game after he was unable to get loose because of tightness in the back of his shoulder.

Young, who has been bothered by biceps tendinitis, is scheduled to get an MRI exam today and could be placed on the disabled list for the second time this season. He said the discomfort is different than in the past, when he has been sidelined for extended periods of time.

“Last year, I could barely pick up the ball,” Young said. “The preliminary [diagnosis] is that it’s muscle tightness and fatigue and the MRI will rule out more serious stuff. Hopefully, that’s it.”

Dillon Gee replaced Young and allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings in the Mets’ 4-2 victory over the Dodgers last night at Citi Field.

General manager Sandy Alderson said Pat Misch is being summoned from Triple-A Buffalo in case Young is out of action, but Alderson sounded confident rest would be enough. He also wouldn’t rule out making another move to include Misch on the roster.

Young had two anti-inflammatory shots this week and said he knows he may have to deal with this throughout the season.

“The shots helped calm it down, but that’s not a long-lasting thing,” said Young, who admitted he might have to deal with this all year. “We all have to manage things, maybe me more so than others. . . . The only thing holding me back from a successful season is health.”

Bobby Parnell threw one inning in an extended spring training game in Port St. Lucie yesterday and manager Terry Collins said there were “no issues” with the righty, on the DL with a circulatory problem.

That’s a good sign for the reliever after he complained of numbness in his right hand before heading to the DL.

Collins said he and Alderson now will decide the next step.

“I think we need to get him up in cooler weather and see how he reacts to it,” Collins said.

There is still no timetable for Angel Pagan‘s return after his latest setback in Port St. Lucie on Thursday.

“It’ll probably be five or six days [before he can return to the field] and 10 days after that, I’m sure,” Collins said.

Collins still plans on using Ronny Paulino to catch R.A. Dickey‘s knuckleball today, because the Mets will be facing lefty Clayton Kershaw.

“I think once they get back there in a game, he’s going to, I think, just react,” Collins said. “That’s why he’s here. And he’ll catch him in the bullpen and warm him up, which will also help.”
