IMF head Strauss-Kahn waives extradition rights in bail request

International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has waived his extradition rights in a bid to be released on bail, according to documents posted on the New York Times website Wednesday.

Strauss-Kahn — who is accused of trying to rape a Manhattan hotel maid — will appear in a New York court Thursday as his defense lawyers try to secure his release at a bail hearing.

Waiving his extradition rights was part of the bail application put forward by the 62-year-old Frenchman’s lawyers Wednesday.

The application said Strauss-Kahn would also be willing to be confined to a location in Manhattan, wear an electronic ankle bracelet to monitor his movements and post $1 million bail in cash.
