What was once a 2008 Nissan Maxima is now a hulking mass of twisted metal after its driver lost control and smashed it into a tree on Long Island, killing two people and critically injuring three yesterday, police said.

Four men and one woman wereheaded westbound along a wooded area of the Southern State Parkway at 5:45 a.m. when driver Kervens Boutin, 30, lost control near Exit 23, cops said. Investigators suspect that Boutin, who lost a leg in the crash, was speeding and they have charged him with reckless driving.

Two passengers, Blossom Castro, 22, and Bryan Rivas, 20, both of Hempstead, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two others, Antonio Rivas, 22, of Hempstead, and Marlo Cabrera, 19, of The Bronx, were ejected from the car and rushed to Nassau University Medical Center where they remain in critical condition.

“It was so loud that I thought they hit my house,” said Jason Todeschini, 35, whose back yard sits just 50 feet from the crash scene.
