Healthy word from First Bird

WASHINGTON — This has got to ruffle Mitt Romney’s feathers.

Just months after the Republican vowed that if elected president he would ax federal funding for Big Bird and the rest of his public-broadcasting friends, the big yellow “Sesame Street” character is prancing around the White House in a new public-service announcement with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Big Bird did two public-service TV spots to promote exercise and healthy eating as part of Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign against childhood obesity.

The PSAs will air nationwide on 320 PBS stations, said White House officials.

“Look, Mrs. Obama — I’m getting moving right now by jogging,” Big Bird calls out in the TV ad, as he frolics in the East Room behind her. “And now I’m dancing.”

“Good for you, Big Bird,” Obama said, telling the TV audience, “Get moving! It’s good for you.”

In the other PSA, Big Bird and the first lady are standing in the White House kitchen to encourage kids to each “juicy fruits and crunchy vegetables” for snacks.

“Gee, I bet you can get just everything you want in this kitchen,” says Big Bird.
