Ex-Giant hit by stray bullet in Minneapolis nightclub

Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph, a former Giant, was hit in his calf by a stray bullet in a nightclub in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning, according to a statement released by the team.

The Vikings said Joseph, who suffered just a minor injury, was an innocent bystander when the incident occurred. He was treated at a hospital and released on Saturday.

The gunman injured nine people, according to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis. According to a police spokesman, two people with serious injuries were in stable condition and expected to survive, while the other seven had minor injuries. As of Saturday afternoon, the gunman is still at large.

The injury is not expected to keep Joseph out for more than two weeks, and he will return to the team on Sunday.

“The entire Vikings organization is extremely thankful that Linval was not seriously hurt, and our thoughts are with all of the victims of this shooting,” the team said in a statement.

Joseph signed a five-year, $31.25 million contract with the Vikings in March after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Giants. He started 46 of the 48 games he played in, averaging 55 tackles and three sacks over the last three years. He also played a role on the Giants’ 2011 Super Bowl-winning team.
