Fowler honors Stewart with knickers at US Open

Rickie Fowler would’ve made Payne Stewart proud on Thursday.

Fowler paid tribute to Stewart, who died in a plane crash in 1999, months after winning the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, by wearing Stewart’s trademark knickers as the tournament began on the same course.

The 25-year-old American shot an even-par 70 to put himself near the top of the leaderboard in round one.

Fowler is known for his colorful and stylish outfits, but made the biggest impression with Stewart’s throwback look.
