WASHINGTON — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) yesterday beat the Senate’s top waste watchdog when he tried to ax some $151.6 million in anti-terror funds for the NYPD.
“Protecting our families from the unimaginable should not be a place where we make cuts,” blasted Gillibrand when Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) said he wanted to restrict the use of federal anti-terror grants.
The Senate later passed the bill, but without the Coburn amendment, which would have blocked the NYPD and other police agencies from spending federal grants.
