Man wrongly convicted of rabbi slay has heart attack after being freed from prison

The man locked up 23 years after being wrongfully convicted of murder suffered a serious heart attack just a day after finally being released from prison.

David Ranta, 58, was rushed yesterday to a city hospital where doctors discovered one of his arteries was completely blocked and another was partially closed up, his lawyer told The Post.

“They cleared the artery so it is now flowing freely, but he will have to have another procedure,” said his lawyer Pierre Sussman.

Ranta’s family would not disclose where he’s being treated. He had been hiding at a local hotel to avoid attention from the press since his release.

When his conviction was thrown out, a shaken Ranta said only he was “overwhelmed” and felt like he was “underwater, swimming.”

The man chowed down on steak just hours after Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Miriam Cyrulnik vacated his 1991 conviction in the killing of Williamsburg rabbi Chaskel Werzberger, who was shot in the head during a jewelry heist the year before.

Ranta was cleared after the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office determined the case was riddled with errors and false testimony.
