Meet the furriest stars on stage

Theater has gone to the dogs — and they’re proving themselves the highlights of the season. In fact, no other member of off-Broadway’s newly revived “The Threepenny Opera” received warmer reviews than Romeo, the cross-dressing bulldog. Here are a quartet of canine up-and-comers — all of them rescue dogs — and where to find them.

Trixie

The 8-pound Pomeranian makes her Broadway debut Thursday in “Bullets Over Broadway,” spending most of her stage time sitting pretty in co-star Karen Ziemba’s arms.

Romeo

Romeo’s favorite accessory? His adorable topper, of course!

This “Threepenny Opera” star is a former junkyard dog from Newark who cleaned up nicely — especially when he’s sporting a Mack the Knife-like topper.

Roxie

Roxie is all about R&R in between performances.

The scrappy Chihuahua who played Elle Woods’ BFF in “Legally Blonde” several seasons ago is back on the boards — as Audra McDonald’s constant companion in “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.”

Violet
