Mets still looking to trade Davis — with little success

The Mets are steadfast in trying to snag a top pitching prospect for Ike Davis.

According to an industry source, general manager Sandy Alderson tried to get 20-year-old Orioles lefty Eduardo Rodriguez for Davis, but was rebuffed. The Brewers, Pirates and Orioles still have some level of interest in Davis, who has been shopped by the Mets for much of the offseason.

Alderson has asked the Brewers for righty Tyler Thornburg, a proposal that was rejected by Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin, according to sources. And the Mets have reportedly sought pitching prospect Nick Kingham from the Pirates in exchange for Davis.

Alderson said last week he’s prepared to keep Davis if he can’t find a suitable return for the high-ceiling/low-basement first baseman.

Davis hit 32 home runs for the Mets in 2012, but never got on track last season, which included a stint at Triple-A Las Vegas trying to rediscover his swing. Overall, Davis hit .205 with nine homers and 33 RBIs.
