Weiner’s mayoral fantasy: It’s always about him

The Issue: Whether former Rep. Anthony Weiner could successfully stage a comeback and run for mayor.

***

Anthony Weiner is banking on the oldest political trick there is: time (“Get the Picture, Anthony?” Editorial, April 11).

He is hoping that time will help erase the disgraceful acts he conducted while in office and their effect on his poor wife.

Weiner wants us to forgive and forget that he acted like a teenager, sending pictures of his private parts to females while a congressman.

After the arrests of city politicians in the last few weeks, the last thing we need is another immature person in an elected office, especially one as powerful as mayor.

With one startling sentence, “It’s now or maybe never for me,” Weiner summed up the corruption of today’s elected officials.

Whether they are lining their pockets with dirty money or feeding their huge egos, it’s not about the people.

It’s all about them and their voracious needs.

Wise up, voters.

Andrea Peyser’s column on Weiner’s quest to get back on the taxpayers’ payroll is almost entirely on the mark (“End This Bizarre Fantasy,” April 11).

Power-hungry egotists like Weiner need to hold public office the way a drug addict needs a fix and the way the rest of us need oxygen to breathe. Where Peyser falls short is her call — tongue in cheek though it may be — to urge Weiner to get a real job. He couldn’t handle one.

What makes Weiner’s sexting any different from Bill Clinton’s disgusting behavior while president of the United States?

The Clintons are now revered and make tons of money writing books and speeches.

Albany is full of cretins. Why do we keep electing them?

The candidates for mayor of this great city also have baggage.

I’m not enthralled by Weiner, but if he is begging for another chance, maybe he should be considered.

He just might be good for the city. S. Kane

Like any career politician, Weiner just can’t kick the habit of running for public office.

New York City will have a $70 billion budget in fiscal year 2014, with over 200,000 employees.

This is greater than most states and some nations.

Weiner has never built a business, created jobs, met a payroll, balanced a multibillion-dollar budget or managed any significant agencies with large numbers of employees.

His $4 million campaign fund will never be enough to paper over his past scandals and lack of expertise to run the greatest city in the world.Larry Penner

As a former constituent, I find that what is lost in the tabloid frenzy surrounding Weiner is that he offered his former district a high intellect, a firm grasp of all issues concerning New Yorkers and unparalleled constituent service.

I would gladly vote again for Weiner in a run for any public office.

Weiner says he is mulling a comeback, for mayor, no less.

He would fit in perfectly with the cast of characters the Democrats are running: Christine Quinn, John Liu, Bill de Blasio and Bill Thompson.

If he doesn’t make it there, I’m sure he would be a hit on Times Square with the rest of the Sesame Street perverts.

The corruption in New York politics is just mind-boggling.

As the politicians do their perp walks, who should arise — no pun intended — but Weiner?

This obnoxious, arrogant pervert has absolutely no shame. But we are talking about a politician.

I suppose with so many state politicians getting busted for all types of corruption, it is safe for him to get back in the sewer of New York politics.
